Services

Geotechnical Engineering

Our experienced professional staff and project managers can quickly take in your project info and develop an appropriate scope of work.  We pride ourselves on responding quickly and developing plans for subsurface and other investigations that provide the design team with accurate and cost effective information.  Vertical integration of services and strong relationships with subcontractors allows for rapid execution of investigations, and better support to the rest of the project team.

  • Geologic and geotechnical site characterization
  • Shallow and deep foundation design recommendations
  • Modular block and rockery retaining structure design
  • Marine and streambank shoreline armoring design
  • Stormwater Infiltration analysis
  • Surface and subsurface drainage
  • Landslide investigation and mitigation design
  • Excavations and shoring design recommendations
  • Pavement analysis and design
  • Settlement Analysis and Underpinning design recommendations
  • Groundwater mounding analysis
  • Expert witness services

GeoResources personnel are experienced with a wide variety of geotechnical investigation methods.

  • Hollow stem auger
  • Roto-sonic drilling
  • Cone penetrometer
  • Geophysical methods
  • Test pits
  • Mud and air rotary
  • Rock coring and HQ3 wire line coring
  • Seismic cone penetrometer
  • Direct push sampling
  • Hand borings (WSDOT portable Penetration test)

We maintain an on-site soils laboratory to assist in soil classification and developing soil index engineering properties. We perform the following laboratory analyses in accordance with ASTM Standards.

  • Particle size distribution of soils
  • Sand Equivalent value of soils
  • Modified Proctor method
  • Moisture content of soils
  • Atterberg limits
  • Standard Proctor method

Geologic Hazards

In the Pacific Northwest natural hazards associated with geologic conditions are significant and must be carefully considered to protect life and property. Our staff is experienced with characterizing the risk and severity of the following geologic hazards and providing detailed recommendations for mitigation.

  • Seismic Hazards
  • Volcanic hazards
  • Mine hazards
  • Landslides and erosion hazards
  • Channel migration zone hazards
  • Geologic mapping

Natural Resources

In keeping with our original mission, GeoResources cultivates and maintains our institutional knowledge with regards to surface mining extraction and reclamation operations and forest practices on steep slopes. We have engineering geologists that are approved by the Washington Department of Natural Resources as qualified experts to evaluate Class IV special forest practice applications.

  • Geotechnical & geological engineering for surface mining
  • Aggregate and rock quality and remoteness assessment
  • Aggregate resource valuation, royalty based discounted cash flow analysis
  • Class IV special forest practice applications
